This camera obscura is the building adjacent to Flamsteed House, which was named after the first Astronomer Royal who set up his Observatory there. The camera obscura was installed in 1994.


The lens is 8" in diameter, achromatic & coma free with a focal length of 22 feet and a focal ratio of F34. The flat screen is about 4 feet in diameter and the mirror a 9" x 12" octagon. The panning mechanism does not go completely round but travels from side to side and produces views over the National Maritime Museum and the River Thames.
